Sometimes EPS files are called EPSF files. The purpose of an EPS file is to be included in other pages. It can include both bitmap and vector data. An EPS file internally contains a description of such an object or layout using the PostScript page description language. It makes sense to save into a project file format that is not intended to be viewed in a typical image viewer when you have users that use the program extensively for bigger projects and not just plain open, modify and save modifications workflows and you want to have a clear distinction between project files and image formats.EPS or Encapsulated PostScript is a standard graphics file format for exchanging images, drawings (such as a logo or map), or even layouts of complete pages. As Louis already explained saving in such formats has the benefit of being able to make modifications to editable components, which comes in handy when you work on big projects and have features like non-destructive editing and a history of modifications. So, if you would like to easily edit your images in the future, also save it as a XCF file as this will preserve all layers, components and other things as they are when you close GIMP.xcf is similar to how is Photoshop's native project file format. So all your layers will be merged, and all editable components you may have added (like text) are not editable anymore. Click on Export The downside of exporting is that you'll only save what you see. You can use any other format by simply adding the extension to your filename (like image.jpg, image.bmp) or selecting another file format in the bottom right of the export window. In order to convert CDR files you need to install uniconvertor for CDR delegate: sudo apt-get install python-uniconvertor List of all delegates: convert -list delegate By default it outputs: cdr = 'uniconvertor' '%i' '%o.svg' mv '%o.svg' '%o' Then run: convert image.cdr -flatten -thumbnail '512x512' image.png Or with zoom cropping: convert image.cdr -flatten -thumbnail '512x512^' -gravity center -crop 512x512+0+0 +repage image.png I convert to.png here, but you may choose your own output format. In order to work with CDR images you need to install some delegates for ImageMagick. See the imagemagic on the convert utility if more control over the output is needed. Since the document is scanned it should be a bitmap which imagemagick can handle, only the version of the.cdr would be a concern, you did not mention the version of the cdr file so you may just try imagemagick, at your terminal in the directory where the.cdr file is located, run the convert utility like this convert image.cdr image.png this will convert the.cdr image called image.cdr to a.png image called image.png file that you can easily use, probably vectorize by tracing in inkscape if you wish. Another option is to try imagemagick convert utility,Imagemagic can be easily installed using software center or synaptic.
